This is the annual report for the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme (NDRHI). It covers the scheme’s activity over the 2020-21 financial year, and outlines changes to the scheme regulations. It presents statistics on accreditations to the scheme, payments made, and provides a summary of our audit and compliance programme.
Highlights
- The scheme closed to most new applicants on 31 March 2021, although those eligible will continue to receive payments for up to 20 years.
- Ofgem received 2,167 applications in the 12 months before the scheme closure, 49% of which were submitted in March 2021. The annual figure is an increase of 115% from 2019-20.
- During 2020-21, 941 new installations were approved, adding 208.6 MW of capacity to the scheme.
- Since the beginning of the scheme in 2011, 20,920 installations have been accredited and the scheme capacity reached 5,309 MW this year.
- More than £792m was paid out in the past year of the scheme, bringing the total amount of support paid up to £3.3b since the scheme began in 2011.
- The scheme has subsidised 45.4 TWh of heat generation and nearly 1.33b m3 of green gas injected into the grid since 2011.
- Ofgem closed 454 compliance investigations this year. Where enforcement action was required, we either protected or expect to recover more than £2.2m in public funds.
