On 28 October, we’re hosting our annual Winter Outlook Seminar. This event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders and market participants to hear the risks and challenges to the security of our energy supplies for the coming winter.
The seminar will feature speakers from Ofgem, National Grid and representatives from across the industry. View speaker presentations
As system operator of Britain’s gas and electricity systems, National Grid will explain its latest analysis on supply and demand this winter, following publication of its Winter Outlook 2014/15 Consultation earlier this summer.
Stakeholders will be invited to discuss and debate different perspectives on the supply and demand outlook.
The seminar will be chaired by Rachel Fletcher, our Senior Partner for Markets. Topics and panellist will include:
O’Hara will present National Grid’s views on the demand and supply for electricity and gas for next winter. Recently joining National Grid as Director of UK Market Operation, she is responsible for the real time operation of electricity and gas transmission networks in GB. This includes forward energy trading and balancing services, operational forecasting, and leading the development of future energy supply and demand scenarios that take an holistic view of UK energy.
Kelso is Partner in our Wholesale Performance team. They monitor and analyse activities within the wholesale gas and electricity markets, with the aim of informing stakeholders about developments, taking action where it appears that a breach of the rules may have taken place. They also amend and implement new rules where this could improve efficiency in the market, and to better protect the interests of consumers.
Healy will discuss how demand-side response can benefit consumers and security of supply. He will share insights from EnerNOC’s experience. Herb manages EnerNOC’s regulatory and government affairs covering Canada and Western Europe. Herb has been actively engaged with DECC, National Grid, and Ofgem in the GB capacity market and in developing and improving other market opportunities here in the UK.
Stern will outline his views about the outlook to the global gas markets in the short to medium-term and the implications for the GB gas market. He will also cover the role liquefied natural gas can play in security of supply.
Stern founded the OIES Natural Gas Research Programme in 2003 and was its Director until October 2011 when he became its Chairman and a Senior Research Fellow. He is Honorary Professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy at the University of Dundee, Visiting Professor at Imperial College London’s Centre for Environmental Policy, Part Time BP Professor at the Moscow School of Management’s Energy Centre at Skolkovo, and a fellow of the Energy Delta Institute. Since 2011 he has been the EU speaker for the EU-Russia Gas Advisory Council.
The seminar will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
You’ll be able to follow the conversation live through the Ofgem Twitter feed and with the hashtag #ngwinteroutlook.
