This is a statutory consultation to make changes to standard licence condition 22G of the electricity supply licence, which relates to protections for customers with certain types of restricted (multi-rate) meters. We are consulting on changes to the standard conditions of the electricity supply licence to lengthen the period of time when SLC 22G applies to electricity suppliers. We are proposing to extend the current protections for restricted meter customers to 30 June 2025 and give ourselves the power to extend them further if necessary.
The existing protections are due to end on 31 December 2020, in line with the original completion date of the smart meter rollout. With Government introducing a new regulatory framework for energy suppliers to complete the smart meter rollout post-2020, we propose to extend the protections currently in place to protect consumers with non-E7 restricted meters .
We are seeking views on these changes on or before 2 October 2020.
