We have consulted on the licensing framework and potential regulatory arrangements for transmission connecting generation from outside of Great Britain to the Great Britain electricity transmission system.
We suggested in this consultation document the key principles and options for the regulatory treatment of these assets. We also explored some of the associated issues and practical considerations.
We are considering how these electricity transmission connections could be regulated amid government consideration to subsidise renewable generation outside of the UK. In this context, the UK and Irish governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to evaluate the case for trading renewables.
