NOTICE UNDER SECTION 6A(5) OF THE ELECTRICITY ACT 1989 OF THE GRANT OF AN ELECTRICITY INTERCONNECTOR LICENCE
Pursuant to section 6A(5) of the Electricity Act 1989 (“the Act”), the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (“the Authority”) hereby gives notice that on 27 June 2022 an electricity interconnector licence was granted under section 6(1)e of the Act to MaresConnect Limited (company number 605488) whose registered office is situated at The Victorians, 15-18 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, Ireland, D02 YX28, authorising it to participate in the operation of the MaresConnect Interconnector, an electricity interconnector between Bodelwyddan 400kV substation in Great Britain and Maynooth 220kV substation in Ireland.
Note: An electricity interconnector licence authorises a person to operate an electricity interconnector. It is not an authorisation to construct the interconnector. Construction of the interconnector is subject to separate planning processes including the obtaining of any consents or permits required from relevant authorities, including the relevant planning authority.
Further, it is not an authorisation to operate the interconnector under any specific regime (i.e. merchant-exempt route or the cap and floor regime).
