France and the UK have worked in partnership on electricity interconnection projects since 1986.

CRE, the French Energy Regulatory Commission, and Ofgem, Great Britain’s (England, Scotland and Wales) independent energy regulator, regularly assess the opportunity for new interconnection capacity. For example, by estimating the costs and benefits that could be expected from these types of projects.

Agreed approach

CRE and Ofgem have agreed to continue exploring further interconnection development opportunities of around 1 Gigawatt (GW) capacity between France and the UK.

We will continue to work together and aim to publish an updated joint statement by the end of October 2025.
