On 19 July 2018, the Domestic Gas and Electricity (Tariff Cap) Act came into force. This legislation requires Ofgem to design and implement a temporary cap on standard variable tariffs and fixed term default tariffs (‘default tariffs’).
This statutory consultation outlines our proposals for the design and implementation of the default tariff cap. This includes how we propose to set the initial level of the cap and how we propose to periodically adjust the cap up and down, to reflect underlying cost changes. This follows publication of our working papers and our May consultation on the design of the cap.
Alongside this consultation we have also published the accompanying statutory notice and licence conditions.
We will be hosting webinars during the consultation period to discuss the detail of our proposals. You will have an opportunity to submit questions throughout the Webinar as we seek your feedback into our default tariff cap statutory consultation. We are holding two webinars tailored to different audiences:
If there are particular topics related to the default tariff cap statutory consultation that you would like to discuss at the webinars, please let us know by emailing stakeholders@ofgem.gov.uk by 21 September 2018.
