In September 2018, Ofgem received two methodologies from the Electricity System Operator (ESO) in line with Articles 118 and 119 of the SOGL Regulation. In March 2019, Ofgem requested amendments to these methodologies. In response, the ESO submitted a mapping of the obligations already covered by the Grid Code and the National Electricity Transmission System Security and Quality of Supply Standards (NETS SQSS) in May 2019, and an amended intermediate methodology in June 2019. By August 2019, Ofgem acknowledged that most of the requirements of Articles 118 and 119 were covered by the Grid Code and NETS SQSS, approved the intermediate methodology for the remaining requirements, and outlined the necessary next steps.

In May 2019 the Grid Code GC0114 was approved by Ofgem which sought to modify the prequalification processes, as required by the SOGL Regulation.
Since then, The ESO has incorporated ramping restrictions into the Grid Code as per SOGL Article 119 (GC0154), as directed by the Authority and Ofgem Decision letter published on 29 March 2024. Since we issued our decision on GC0154, NGESO have submitted a new Mapping document and letter, outlining they have now completed all the requested updates we had set out in the 2019 letter.

NGESO have now completed the requests we had instructed, and after reviewing, we are writing this letter confirming ESO has now met its obligation to carry out the requested updates for continuity and completeness.
