Ofgem has appointed Total Gas and Power to take on supplying Rutherford Energy Supply Limited’s (trading as Uttily Energy) 280 business customers. This follows an appointment process run by Ofgem to get the best deal possible for customers.
For existing customers, energy supplies will continue as normal as they switch over to Total Gas and Power on Saturday 19 October.
Total Gas and Power will honour any money owed to customers with open accounts with Rutherford, up to a total of £100,000.
Customers of Rutherford Energy will be contacted over the coming days about the changes. If customers wish to switch supplier they should shop around. Customers will not be charged exit fees if they decide to switch to another supplier.
Philippa Pickford, Ofgem’s director of future retail markets, said:
“I am pleased to announce we have appointed Total Gas and Power for the customers of Rutherford Energy and their energy supply will continue as normal.
“Total Gas and Power will honour any money owed to customers with open accounts with Rutherford, up to a total of £100,000.
“Total Gas and Power will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to.”
The parent company, Uttily Plc, will also cease to trade. Uttily plc does not directly supply energy to customers, but it has commercial arrangements in place with a number of partner suppliers where around 360 customers are supplied under the Uttily plc brand.
Most Uttily plc customers will continue to be supplied by the relevant partner supplier, therefore, Ofgem will not appoint a new supplier for these customers.
