Apply for the Domestic RHI

Are you ready to apply?

Before you start, read our guide to making an application which tells you what documentation you’ll need and the key steps in the application process. We have summarised the points below:

Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate number

 

 

No part of the renewable heating system which generates heat may have been used before the heating system’s first commissioning date

Your installer should give you your certificate within 10 working days of commissioning your system

Your installer should also give you an MCS compliance certificate – it should have the MCS installation number on it

 

Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) number

Your EPC must be less than 24 months old at the date of application

Your EPC should accurately reflect information about your home, so if you’ve undertaken construction work on your property since the last EPC was obtained you may need to get a new EPC to ensure it reflects your circumstances

You will need to install any loft and/or cavity wall insulation recommended on your EPC to be eligible for the scheme

There are some exemptions to this, if this is the case, you are required to complete our EPC exemption form

Details of your metering arrangement

There are two types of metering that can be required under the DRHI scheme: ‘metering for performance’ and ‘metering for payment’.

There are different situations where applicants may need to install one or both types of metering requirements to meet scheme eligibility. Read our guide to metering for full details.  

If metering is required, your installer will give you the completed Installer Metering Questions (for biomass or for heat pumps) document (only if your  heating system needs to be metered). You will need this to complete the questions on metering in the application form.

Also, there's an Alternative Metering Arrangements (for biomass or for heat pumps) document that your installer will give you if required.

Proof of financial contribution

Invoices or records stating both the cost of the system and labour to install (these can be approximations and will not affect your payments or eligibility)

Your installer should give you an itemised invoice showing parts and labour

Bank details

Your bank details so that we can pay you. Make sure that the name and personal details you use for your application are the same as on your bank account.

Where a heating system has multiple owners and one of them is making the application for the DRHI. The owners must nominate one person with the authority to act on behalf of all and complete a letter of authorisation.

 

 

Owners of the renewables heating system should make the application, your installer cannot do this on your behalf. For help with completing your application, see our application form helpsheet and the ‘How to apply’ (section 13) in the essential guide.

Once submitted

Once you’ve submitted your application, we’ll tell you if it has been accepted, rejected or placed under review.

Our application system automatically completes checks. using a third-party provider, to verify your identity based on the information you submit. In some cases, we may need more information before we can decide if your application is eligible, and we will request this on a case by case basis.

If your application is placed into review, you will receive an automatic email to inform you of this and explain the reason(s) why. Please note that a random selection of applications are manually reviewed for quality assurance purposes. If your installation is accredited to the scheme, we’ll create an account for you where you can view the details of your accreditation and provide us with information if you ever need to. A few things to note

The application form works on all devices but we recommend you use your computer (rather than a smartphone or tablet) where possible.
